Sovereign Grace is a new church plant out of New Covenant Church in Greenwood, SC. The elders of New Covenant have commissioned and sent Joshua Brooks to plant Sovereign Grace Church. New Covenant recognizes the ongoing need for the spreading of the gospel and expanding God’s glory and sees church planting as a mechanism to bring these about. The planting of Sovereign Grace is a display of the unity of the kingdom of God as New Covenant intentionally and actively sends, supports, and helps to oversee the plant until it is able to stand on its own.

While the list could be longer, we decided to focus on four foundational reasons.

Expand the Worship of God

We should always want to increase the worship God receives. The world doesn’t worship God, only His covenant people do. We should desire to see God receive more and more worship as individuals hear the gospel through the preaching of the word and are transferred from worshiping self to worshiping Him. The more we discover about God, the more we’re in awe of God, and worship of Him is expanded in our own hearts.

Reaching the Lost

As children of God we care deeply about all people and desire for them to become children of God. The church possesses and preaches the greatest message available, the gospel. Planting healthy churches expands the preaching of the gospel and expands salvation of lost souls. The first priority of the church is the worship and glory of God, and the expectation is that through this, others will hear and respond to the gospel.

Expand God’s Glory Through Diversity

God’s work and glory is partly on display through the myriad of unique individual humans, animals, plants, landscapes, etc. He created. Our understanding and knowledge of God is directly connected to the perspective by which we see Him. Various sound, healthy, doctrinally accurate churches with diverse DNA display different perspectives of God, expanding our view of Him, and expanding the glory He receives.

Unity of the Body of Christ

A single worldwide church demonstrates uniformity, while multiple healthy, diverse churches working together demonstrate unity to the world around us. Churches planting healthy churches with various forms and styles demonstrate unity. Contrary to the common “preserve thy own” mentality that pervades the human heart, churches planting churches demonstrates to the world around us that the kingdom of God supersedes “our” church kingdom.
